Mama A

She is from Somalia and she was a happily married Muslim with children, when Jesus appeared to her in a dream/vision several times and told her that He was the Only Way. So she put her faith in the Lord and had the courage from Him to tell her husband about him. Her husband quickly rejected it and stopped speaking to her. For her safety, Mama A fled to Ethiopia.

She was pregnant and had nothing to her name, but a local church took her in. They got her an apartment and two chickens to give her eggs. One day, she asked her neighbors for seeds to start a garden but they refused; since she was pregnant, they started it for her. Eventually, God blessed her with so much food that she was able to start a kiosk outside of her house, selling food to make money.

One day while in church, someone tapped Mama A's shoulder and told her that somebody was there to see her. She turned around and there was her husband and children that she had left in Somalia. Afraid, she asked her husband if he was there to kill her of to accept Jesus. Sure enough, he accepted the Lord right then and there. The family was at last reunited and lived in Ethiopia for many years. Someone from the church gave them a plot of land, where they built a house with a store in front of it. On the front of the store, they put up a sign boldly declaring their love for Jesus.

After years of living in Ethiopia, the family received news that Mama A's father-in-law had died and there was a family reunion happening in Somalia. The family packed up to go visit. One day while in Somalia, Mama A's in-laws called their entire family into the same room. It turns out, this was not a family reunion, but an honor killing of Mama A, her husband, and all 10 of their children for being Christians. Mama A's husband and 10 children were all dead. The family believed Mama A to be dead as well, after severely burning and beating her. However, in the mortuary, one of the morticians noticed a faint pulse in her neck. She was immediately taken to a hospital, then transported to Kenya, where she remained in a coma for a year and seven months.

Once she awoke and recovered from her coma, Mama A was still not believed to be safe in Kenya. She was once again transported to the war-torn country of Burundi. There is still a war going on here between the Hutus and Tutsis, much like there was in Rwanda. Mama A's life was endangered yet again, as many people believed she was a Tutsi. However, week after week, she would go to both Hutu and Tutsi churches and talk to the pastors about how this killing needed to stop. She would say that we are neither Hutu nor Tutsi, but babies of Jesus. Mama A's work helped many of the churches to stop fighting and she became much loved.

Although Mama A loved life in Burundi, the UN knew she wasn't safe as a believer there. She was then placed in the US as a refugee. Mama A has now been in Georgia for five years as of July 31 and wants to become a citizen so she can get a passport and travel back to visit Burundi. She does incredible work of loving on people in Jesus' name here and is well-known and loved. She often helps witness to Muslims about Jesus. Of course, she isn't entirely safe even in the US, as there are Muslims who don't like the work that she does. But that doesn't stop Mama A. This woman is an incredible light for Jesus wherever she goes and will continue to be until the day He takes her home.
