Rest in God
I know, I'm bad at posting regularly. But hey, better late than never, right? At least I'm posting something now.
One of the things that I have been learning lately is to rest in God. We tend to get so caught up in the things of this life that we forget to just spend some time relaxing with Jesus. I'm sure most of you know the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42). This was back in Jesus' day and he was going to visit a family he was friends with and their names were Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Now Martha, of course wanted everything to be perfect for Jesus to come over. And can you blame her? I mean, He's kind of the Savior of mankind.
So anyways, here Martha is, totally stressing out for dinner to be prepared and perfect, after most likely spending the day getting the house spick and span before Jesus arrived. And get this: while Martha is doing all of this hard work for Jesus, her sister Mary is just sitting at His feet just taking in His words and doing absolutely NOTHING to help her sister! Well, finally Martha speaks up and asks Jesus to please make Mary help her get dinner ready. It's only fair for her to help, right? Well Jesus' response was a little unexpected. He said, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her (Luke 10: 41-42)."
Can you imagine? All Martha wanted was help with dinner, and it turns out her priorities were totally construed. Jesus isn't always concerned about what we do for Him. Although it's important to serve Him, sometimes it is far more valuable to sit at His feet and take in His Words. This holiday season is busy. But don't let it get too busy for Jesus. I'll end this post with a verse He spoke to me with this morning:
"Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him." -Psalm 62:5
